ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL

Environmental Control Units also known as Electronic Aids to Daily Living provide a means to interact and manipulate one or more electronic appliances such as a television, radio, electric bed, telephone or lights.  This is accomplished by using speech recognition or  switch access via a computer interface.  Controlling electronic devices is usually done with ultrasound, infrared, AC wiring throughout the house or radio frequency.

The evaluation consists of:

  • Identifying the most appropriate method of control
  • Determine cognitive abilities related to understanding ECU operation
  • Identifying ECU functions desired
  • Integration into living environment
  • Trail use with various systems
